2026 Event List

Summer 2026 Events

(Donations are welcomed at all events)

 

Hours: For the 2026 summer season, our library and museum will be run on its traditional schedule: open to the public on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays effective July 2nd through August 29th from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. We will also be open Memorial Day weekend (Saturday, May 23) and Labor Day Weekend (Saturday, September 5).

 

Story Time: Story time will be held each Wednesday in July at 10:30 AM at the Hoover Building. Thank you to Dawn Lund for volunteering to keep this great island tradition going! 

 

Additional Children’s Programming this summer will include a children’s reading challenge and a Kids’ Read In. Children ages 5-11 can participate in the reading challenge by stopping by the museum for a form. The Kids’ Read In will on July 14 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the museum.

 

Movie Night 2026: The Museum will host movie nights on Mondays, at 8:00 PM all of July and the first two Mondays in August on the museum lawn, if inclement weather they will be held at the Wagner Room. Bring your own lawn chairs.

Museum General Meeting & 30th Birthday Celebration: Friday, July 3. Meeting 12:00 – 1:00 PM. Celebration from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at the museum. There will be a dedication for the Michael White exhibit during the Birthday Celebration.

 

Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians’ Archivist Eric Hemenway: Friday, July 10 at 7:00 PM at the Hoover Community Building.  Eric will discuss the indigenous history of the Juntenen site.

 

Ice Cream Social and Used Book Sale will be held on Saturday, July 18th from 2:00 - 4:00 PM on the museum lawn. Book donations are welcome through the first two weeks of July during museum hours and must be books printed in the last 10 years and “gently used.”

 

Chili Cookoff: Friday, July 31 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Wagner Room. Enter your favorite chili recipe or taste others’ chilis and vote for your favorite.

Cottage Tours: Saturday, August 1 from 1:00-4:00 PM. This year will feature homes at the East End. Driving or carpooling is recommended for this tour. Tickets can be purchased at the museum for $25 per person.

 

Memory Night: Friday, August 7 at 7:00 PM at the Coast Guard Chapel.

 

Night Sky Program Director of Headlands International Dark Sky Park Robyn Portean: Tuesday, August 11 at 7:00 PM Hoover Community Building, a presentation of the history of the night sky. After, a guided dark sky viewing will be held at 10:00 PM at Kathy Brown’s beach, the Looney Bin.
